Witness
Nature’s stillness remedies my active mind, opening a portal to the soul’s innate wisdom.
Made in the majestic scenery of Yosemite National Park, diaphanous images weave together the physical and metaphysical realms through in-camera double exposures and muted tones, serving as an homage to Earth’s boundless sageness. As keepers of timeless wisdom, mountains radiate stability, indifferent to the permutations of civilizations, wildlife, and the land itself.
Witness invites a meditative practice of being present in the body and stable in the mind, as likened to the Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh’s breathing exercise, “Mountain Solid.” On the inhale, one embraces the sense of being a mountain, and on the exhale, the sense of feeling solid. One of countless grounding practices, it is a great reminder to be firmly rooted in our humanness while simultaneously transcending life challenges.
